Martin Luther King

In Oslo 1964, at October 14, the Nobel peace price was awarded to Martin Luther King. At this time he was the youngest to ever have resaved the award. He was only 35 years old.

The prize honors acts "for the furtherance of brotherhood among men and to the abolishment or reduction of standing armies and for the extension of these purposes."

Martin Luther King says that he is glad that people of other nation are concerned with the problems in America, and that he regard the price as a sign that world public option is in the side of those struggling for freedom and dignity.

The prize money $54,000, King gave to the civil rights movement.

Susan Boyle

After watching Susan Boyle performance on “British got talent” I was more or less speechless. The way she had just blown the audience away, and got a standing applause was incredible especially since everybody was against her from the beginning. Even the judges had a laughing smile on their mouth when she walked in. In gets me to think: why didn’t anyone expect that she could sing, and why did we only expect the worse? And shouldn’t not-so-pretty-people be allowed to sing, like pretty people do?

I would guess that a lot of people, almost everyone have a lot of prejudice against people that look and act different than what they find normal. When Susan Boyle entered the stage on “British got talent” everything about her, her clothes, attitude, and hair told us that she would not do a great performance. But why do so many people think this way? I would guess that people like Susan Boyle is not the type of person you would normally se on TV. In every commercial, TV-series and news, there are people who are considered pretty enough to be on TV.

That Susan Boyle got showed that “ugly people” can be talented to is as the judge Amanda Holden said “It was the biggest wake up call ever”. And I personally think, after watching Susan Boyle, that it was about time. It really shouldn’t only be pretty people on TV. And of course “ugly people” have the same right to sing and perform the same way as pretty people do.

I hope that Susan Boyle gets far in “British got talent” And that she gets a career in singing afterwards. I also hope that seeing Susan Boyle performing give inspiration to other people who really want to show what they can. At least get out there and give it a try.

The Edublogger’s Student Competition!

I would like to answer question 3 at The Edublogger's Student Competition.

3) What difference has blogging made to your life at school and home e.g. how has it changed how you learn, the challenges of blogging and how teachers might make the process easier?

So what difference has blogging done for me? Well. The only time I use my blog is at school on Tuesdays, when I have English. At home I haven’t even thought about using it. In my English class we write one blog post every week. It is an ok thing to do, but I don’t feel that I have learned so much from it. I think there are other learning methods that work better for me, like writing articles and essays. This makes me go deeper into what I write, and I learn much more. When I write on my blog I do find the same information, but I write it simple and short, and I don’t remember a word of it next week.

I don’t mind blogging, but I prefer other ways to work and learn.

My hometown

I live in a little place called Asker. There lives among 53000 people here. Asker is surrounded by fields and has a lot of old farms.

The center of Asker, where we meet, hang out and go to the cinema we call “Asker sentrum” Here the local shopping center lie, which is called “Trekanten”, I work here on a coffee shop. All thought I live in Asker I do not go to school here. Every day I take the train to a small city called Sandvika.

In the summer I hang out on the pyramid, which is made out of big rocks. In the summer I also like going to the local beach, which is called Hvalstrand to swim, relax in the sun and eat lots of ice cream. In the winter there usually is a lot of snow. This means that I can go skiing whenever I want to, just by walking out the door.

This is England

The film takes place in England 1983. We met the 11 year old Shaun. His father died in the Falkland war. Shaun is being bullied by his classmates, but he fined comfort and friendship in some older kids. They are taking him out on trips and parties. They are a bit rough, but it is mostly an excuse to do some funny tricks. Things start to go wrong when they get to know a couple of skinheads. Young Shaun becomes a mascot for the rough boys. Playing is starting to get serious, and doesn’t see it before it has gone too far.

OneNote

OneNote is a program in the Microsoft Office pack. It is a program where you can have all your notes. It makes it easy to find and make good notes in class and at home. It is very easy to use, and you don't even have to remember to save all the time, it saves automatic. I am going to use this in most of my classes. I have already used it in English, History, Sosialkunnskap? And Religion. It will also be great to have during the exams, big tests and so on. I am really glad that our teacher showed and gave us the opportunity to use this program.

Land of the Fat

Quote from our English book.

“Obesity kills 300,000 people a year in America and is the nation’s number-one health hazard. Nowhere is this more true than in Mississippi, where food is cheap and exercise unheard of.”

In my English study project I will try to find out why obesity is such a huge problem in the American society, and discuss how this can be improved.
